You’ve had a long flight, you hardly slept thanks to that crying baby and you have a busy schedule the second you land… and then the jet lag kicks in. How do you do it? How do you savor every minute of your vacation without over-exhausting your body and putting yourself at risk of getting sick due to lack of rest?
Travel is what we specialize in here at Luxury Trips and we know every aspect of traveling to help you answer these questions and avoid a situation where you may not be at your best on your much-needed vacation. Some great articles and studies as have been conducted pertaining to jet lag and it has led to a plethora of tips on eating, sleeping, and scheduling to make jet lag work for you instead of against you.
The infographic above (courtesy of Jaunted) has provided some insightful tips on how to create a balanced meal and regulate your eating habits before traveling across time zones. Limiting caffeine intake to only certain times of the day or only certain days and drinking plenty of water before, during and after travel are two tips you will see very often that make a huge difference behind the scenes.
When traveling to other sides of the world where the timezones are completely opposite the best tip we can give would be to stay awake and adhere to the new time zone as much as possible. Even if you’ve been up all night, try to stick to their schedule and stay up. Make some time for a nap mid-day, typically a good idea either way as it’s the warmest time of the day and many cultures take this time to nap anyway.
If you are waking up early or can’t get a full nights rest without waking up in the middle of night try using that time to do something productive that might otherwise be pushed back to later in the day. Up early? Try going for a walk or hit the fitness room. If you’re waking up in the middle of the night do some reading, write in your journal or maybe knock out that deadline you’ve been procrastinating. Getting tasks like that done early will make you feel more accomplished and less stressed about obligations you strive to meet while traveling.
